2011 edition

Knowledge for Growth 2011 focused on Biotech meets global needs, improving people's lives. The Flemish biotech industry has experienced significant growth in recent years. Some companies have products on the market for the first time; others signed key partnerships that will have a significant impact on their continued growth. These important evolutions create a new commitment with patients and consumers, but also with financial stakeholders and other partners. KfG 2011 focused on the significance of these and other recent developments.

More than 1000 individual participants (61% industry, 39% academic) registered for the convention and 330 companies & organisations active in life sciences were present at KfG 2011. This makes Knowledge for Growth Europe's largest regional biotech event.

The principal ingredients of Knowledge for Growth are

  • networking: 1014 participants active in the life sciences sector registered for this event.
  • keynote science and business talks: KfG 2011 featured more than 40 talks, from which 16 were abstract presentations - selected by the KfG scientific committee out of the 101 abstracts that had been submitted. For the first time, we also organised a dedicated financial programma - Finance for Biotech - that gave a clear insight in biotech financing - from VCs to a profitable exit.
  • a trade exhibition: 76 companies & organisations active in the life sciences presented their activities in the 83 booths that were set up in two exhibition halls.
  • a poster exhibition: 89 scientists presented their poster at the convention. Four abstracts were awarded a poster award (500 EUR) by the KfG scientific committee.
  • a Job Fair: 8 companies participated in the Job Fair at KfG 2011; 156 jobseekers submitted their CV, and 59 jobseekers were selected for a job interview on 5 May.
108 graduating master and bachelor students in the life sciences registered for the afternoon programme, and had the chance to meet the biotech companies.
