Telecardiology in a tertiary referral hospital: results of randomised trials

View full programme

Paul Dendale - Cardiologist, Jessa Hospital

Short description of the presentation:

the Heart Centre Hasselt started its pioneering testing and deployment of telecardiology at least 10 years ago, in collaboration with a small innovative startup company. After some pilot testing, a large multicentre randomised trial (the first and only in Belgium up to now) was performed in 7 Belgian hospitals. This study showed impressive reductions in mortality and morbidity in this very sick population. After these encouraging results, several other scientific studies showed the value of telecardiology in secondary prevention after infarction. In the presentation, the clinical and cost benefit results of studies done in Belgian hospitals will be presented, as well as the (near) future of telecardiology: promises, limitations and risks.
