Belgian Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms (BCCM)

With more than 280,000 publicly available biological resources, the BCCM consortium, funded and coordinated by the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO), is one of the largest collections of biological material worldwide. Bacteria, fungi, microalgae, plasmids and DNA banks, from a huge variety of clinical and environmental sources currently form the precious biodiversity patrimony of the seven collections of the BCCM consortium.

BCCM provides viable organisms or DNA extracts as resources for your research in e.g. epidemiology, pathogenicity, drug development, fermentation, probiotic activity, protective cultures, cell factories; as well as for testing, validation and educational purposes.

On top of invaluable microbiological resources, BCCM also offers a range of services for microbial analyses.

BCCM is recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as an international depositary authority (IDA), making it a repository for microorganisms, plasmids, and both animal and human cell lines for patent purposes. The BCCM collections operate in a quality-controlled manner and meet the standards required by industry and the scientific community (ISO 9001:2015).

Our specialised staff is ready to help you find the right service for your specific business or academic needs.

BCCM also provides training for groups or individuals, on isolation, cultivation and preservation techniques and on polyphasic identification, taxonomy and classification.
