Benjamin Laga started his career as Biological Engineer at the Former Plant Genetic systems where he helped setting up molecular breeding activities. Through acquisitions Benjamin ended up in multinational seed companies Bayer and BASF where he developed several successful non-GM products that are on the market like canola oil with an improved cardiovascular profile and pod shatter resistant canola. Moving gradually from research to managerial roles Benjamin ultimately left BASF as global head of plant biotech and managing director of the BASF Innovation Site in Ghent to join VIB as entrepreneur in residence. In that role he helped founding the company Protealis as a joint start-up between VIB and ILVO. Since the start of Protealis March 2021 he is CEO and founder of this new company that focuses on sustainable protein seeds for Europe.
