Scientific Advisor, Team Lead development projects - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO)

Kirezi Kanobana holds a master degree in veterinary medicine and has a broad scientific background and working experience in academia, pharmaceutical industry and governmental agency. Afterobtaining her PhD in veterinary sciences (Infectious diseases  and Immunology) from Utrecht University, she started her career as a post-doc at  the Animal Health Department of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITG) in 2002.  From 2002 to 2005 she was mainly involved in research capacity strengthening projects in low resource countries (DRCongo, Peru, Cuba), focused on  diagnostics development and the epidemiology of endemic parasitic diseases. Between 2005 and 2008 she joined the pharmaceutical company Organon (Scheringh Plough, Merck) where she was actively involved in preclinical development projects and toxicology. From 2008 to 2012, she coordinated various research project related to the immune-epidemiology of human and zoonotic parasitic diseases as post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at ITG. 

Since 2012 she has been working at the  Agency of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (former IWT) where she took on various roles. As scientific advisor she has been involved in the evaluation of research and industrial grant proposal in Life sciences, Biotech, and Veterinary sciences as well as various other domains. From 2015 to 2018 she was responsible for the coordination of programs focused on technology transfer from academy to stakeholders (COOCK, TETRA and LA-trajectories).

Since 2018 Kirezi’s main role as Team Lead Innovation at VLAIO, is the coordination of the development program by the industry and tmanagement of a team of 22 advisors. 

Her main interests are  biotechnology, immunology,  infectious diseases and drug development.
