She started her career as a medical coordinator of several missions in Africa for the humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
Next, Kristel worked for the Belgian Socialist Sickness Fund and the Intermutualistic Agency. For 7 years, she analysed data on the use of health care services and drew policy information from these analyses for policymakers.
The following 8 years, Kristel joined the Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre (KCE) as program manager. KCE advises policymakers on health care issues based on scientific research and its research fields are Health Technology Assessment, Health Services Research and Good Clinical Practice.
Since July 2015, Kristel works as Medical Director at pharma.be which is the trade association for the innovative bio-pharmaceutical industry in Belgium, representing 125 companies operating in Belgium. These companies focus on R&D of new medicines and employ more than 40,000 employees in Belgium. The association’s aim is to ensure that patients can benefit from the latest and most advanced medicines. Kristel coordinates the association’s strategies regarding clinical trials, early access, reimbursement of medicines on the Belgian market, and deontological issues. Internally, she works cross-functionally to align positions which she then transforms in coalition building with external stakeholders and policymakers.
