Laurent van Lerberghe is a Senior Executive with 20 years+ multi-faceted experience in Specialty and Primary Care in EU, US and Emerging Markets. He lived in EU, US, Asia, now is back in EU. He has a unique blend of Operations and Strategy experience, that developed a strong science and commercial acumen. He likes to build, (re)shape and transform businesses. He is very forward looking, and has strong ability to shape vision, execute roadmap, and deliver results across very different environments.
Laurent was appointed Chief Strategy Officer on December 1, 2019 soon after the arrival of a new CEO. He joined Sanofi in March 2014.
In his role, Laurent is working very closely with our teams in R&D and each GBU. Most recently, he led our Cell & Gene Therapy Strategy including M&A targets prioritization and approval for investment needed. He also worked extensively over last two years to solidify our oncology building strategy including pipeline prioritization and significant investment re-allocation. He has re-built the Strategy Team with very diverse set of individuals well recognized now across the organization. He has a passion for skiing, mountaineering, rugby and opera.
Before joining Sanofi, Laurent worked 10 years for Abbott. During this time, he has held leadership positions in commercial operations & strategy and lived in a number of locations around the globe (US, Asia and Europe). He started as Commercial Director Europe in charge of selected primary care products (Paris), then General Manager for Denmark Affiliate doubling sales and transforming culture to highly entrepreneurial one (Copenhagen), then Global Chair of Virology Executive Committee (HIV and HCV), working with affiliates, R&D development and pre-clinical teams, driving HCV scientific choices, turning around Kaletra campaign and market share (Chicago), and finally Region Head in charge of Commercial Operations for Asia Region until end February 2014, tripling sales through organic and inorganic growth (Singapore).
Laurent also worked 7 years at The Boston Consulting Group, based in Paris and Brussels, as well as 3 years for PriceWaterhouseCoopers based in Luxembourg. He holds an MBA from Insead (France) and a Business Engineering Degree from Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium)
