Prof. dr. Tessa Kerre is head of clinic in Hematology at the Ghent University Hospital, and associate professor at the Ghent University. After she got her PhD in medical sciences and specialised in internal medicine and hematology, and more specifically blood cancer and stem cell transplantation, she wanted to merge two of her passions and decided to start her own research in the field of immunotherapy, employing the immune system in the fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Tessa has co-authored more than 75 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, and she has given numerous talks at national and international conferences. Also for the layman public, she gives 10-15 talks every year, and she regularly participates in science festivals. One of Tessa’s other passions is improving patient education to optimize shared decision making. She has developed Immuno-T (immuno-T.inmotion.care), a motion comic. She has published two books for the layman public: Immuun voor kanker - wetenschap, verhalen en verbeelding, Academia Press, 2021, and Kunst op voorschrift - een pleidooi voor de integratie van kunsten in de zorg, Academia Press, 2022.
