Wim is an expert in policies and innovation related to food systems, agriculture and bio-economy.
In April 2021 he joined the Social Sciences Unit of ILVO as Senior Advisor. His work there focusses on improving the links between research, innovation, policies and practice to support the green & digital twin transition in food systems, agriculture and bio-economy.
Before joining ILVO, Wim worked at the European Commission (DG Research & Innovation; DG Agriculture & Rural Development). There and between 2015 and 2021, he specialised in EU R&I policies and funding for food systems and bio-economy, and contributed to both the EC’s Food 2030 initiative and the 2018 EU Bio-economy Strategy. Previously he worked as a policy officer for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Flanders, Belgium, where he was involved in the negotiations and implementation of the 2014 reform of the European Common Agricultural Policy. Prior to this he held various positions in the private sector, in particular in the food sector.
Wim holds an bio-engineering degree from Ghent University and an MBA in International Management from Vlerick Business School.
